After18 is a Leicester-based organisation working with unaccompanied asylum-seeking young adults as they turn 18 and make the transition into adulthood. Most have been separated from their families and are alone in a new country where everything is unfamiliar.
The aim of After18 is to be a trusted source of information for young people – whatever their country of origin – to find out about life in the UK. It provides support to young adults in the asylum system to understand what is happening, consider their options and plan for their future. After18 builds a network of assistance through a helpline offering information, signposting to other useful organisations and arranging activities for young people to socialise, have fun and learn new skills.
