Broadcaster and historian Professor Michael Wood, will be the guest speaker at the candle lit dinner to be held by the Guild of St Martin in the nave of in Leicester Cathedral on Thursday 25 October.
Michael Wood has presented many acclaimed television series and documentaries, most recently BBC 4’s Ovid: The Poet and Emperor in 2017.
He is also a prolific author. In 2010 he published The Story of England, which told the story of the Leicestershire village of Kibworth from the Roman era to modern times. The TV series based on the book focused on tracing history through ordinary people in an ordinary English town, with current residents of Kibworth sharing what they know of their ancestors and they participated in researching their local history.
The Dean of Leicester, the Very Revd David Monteith, said, “I’m thrilled to have the eminent historian Michael Wood join us for an important event in the cathedral diary with the unique perspective that he will bring of the history of Leicestershire and from the beating heart of City and County be telling it back to the people of Leicestershire.”
