Music Foundation

Music is at the heart of Christian worship. Cathedrals have a particular calling to keep our musical tradition alive and people rightly expect high standards. Parts of our music in worship, such as Choral Evensong, are uniquely Anglican. The service of Evensong is currently seeing a revival as its beauty transcends barriers of denomination and even faith. Like all art and beauty, music allows us to catch a glimpse of the Divine and become aware of the presence of the Holy.

Music is transformative to listeners and performers alike and those who take part in it find themselves changed and enabled in very different areas of their lives. By giving to Leicester Cathedral Music Foundation, you can support this vital part of our Cathedral life.

In addition, we are grateful to The Ouseley Church Music Trust for a recent grant of £15,000 for assistance with the costs of the position of Assistant Director of Music. This funding will help us to plan for the future and release core funding to be spent on other activities.

In the first video, some of our singers and their parents talk about what being in Leicester Cathedral Choir has done for them.

The second video, Future Musicians, reveals how scholarship money supports Choristers’ instrumental tuition and how this can lead to a career in professional music.

In this third and final film, you can find out more about our schools’ singing project, DioSing! and discover how children from schools participating in that project can become Cathedral Choristers.
