Children & Family Worship

A colourful drawing of Jesus ascending to Heaven created during a Leicester Cathedral Junior Church session

Who we are...

Families are a highly valued part of the life of Leicester Cathedral, and we are delighted to have families from across Leicester and Leicestershire who call our church community 'home'.

The vision for our work with children and families is to provide opportunities to meet with and learn about the God revealed in Jesus who loves each one of us, in whose image we are all made.

We have four words which shape everything we do together: fun, family, inclusive and safe.

    • In everything we do, we hope that children and their families will have fun together, so all of our work is built around games, creativity and relationships.
    • Since many of those in our church community have little or no day-to-day access to extended family networks, we are seeking to build a healthy, safe, interdependent family dynamic within Junior Church and beyond into the wider church community.
    • At Junior Church we seek to welcome and include children and families of all kinds, celebrating the diversity of stories and experience which have shaped us.
    • Healthy communities are safe communities, and we seek to model this through our commitment to safeguarding the wellbeing of everyone in our care, children, young people and adults alike.

How we spend time together

Junior Church

Sundays during the 10.30am Eucharist
The Learning Room

Junior Church is now meeting upstairs in the Learning Room in the Heritage & Learning Centre. Children of school age, up to and including Key Stage 3 are welcome, but must be accompanied upstairs by an adult. Group leaders will bring the children to the Cathedral during the service. Please speak to the warden on the door for more information.

Safeguarding

The Dean and Chapter of the Cathedral are wholly committed to the safety, well-being and protection of everyone having contact with our community. We all share responsibility for Safeguarding.

All volunteers working with our children and families have been recruited in line with our Safer Recruitment policy and have undertaken appropriate safeguarding training and a DBS check.
