Leicester Cathedral is the mother church for the Diocese of Leicester and the seat of the Bishop of Leicester. Our mission is to be a beating heart for city and county serving the rural and surrounding market towns alongside the diverse City of Leicester.
As an open Christian community we do this through welcome, worship and witness taking inspiration from our patron, St Martin of Tours, whose generosity and Christian faith transformed the community.
King Richard III was reburied in the Cathedral in 2015 following the discovery of his remains in what was the friary of Greyfriars. We welcome all pilgrims – those seeking the story of Richard III and those of all faiths and none.
We are so happy to have reopened to the public again on 26 November 2023 after 22 months of renewal and transformation. Our new Heritage and Learning Centre will open in late summer 2024.
