Closures and Opening Times

Opening Hours

Leicester Cathedral is open for visiting as follows:

Monday to Friday
8.15am – 6.00pm

Saturday
9.15am – 6.00pm

Sunday
12.00pm – 4.30pm
On Sundays the Tomb of Richard III can be visited from 12.30pm

Services will take place throughout the day – you are welcome to join us!

Some parts of the building are inaccessible for general visiting while a service is taking place. Our daily pattern of worship can be found here.


Cathedral Closures

Occasionally, there are special services or events which may affect our opening hours, or may restrict access to certain parts of the building. We will list these dates below.

Saturday 4 May 2024
The Cathedral will be closed for a Wedding Service between 2.00–4.30pm.

Monday 13 May 2024
The Cathedral will be closed for general visiting during the day's Lunchtime Recital, from 12.30–1.15pm. All are welcome to attend the recital, which is free admission with donations welcomed.

Saturday 18 May 2024
The Cathedral will be closed for general visiting from 2.00–4.15pm, during the annual Called Together Service.

Monday 10 June 2024
The Cathedral will be closed for general visiting during the day's Lunchtime Recital, from 12.30–1.15pm. All are welcome to attend the recital, which is free admission with donations welcomed.

Sunday 16 June 2024
The Cathedral will be open today between 1.30–3.30pm, following a special Service for the Royal Leicestershire (Tigers) Regiment.

Saturday 29 June 2024
The Cathedral will be closed for general visiting from 3.00pm for the Ordination of Priests service.

Monday 1 July 2024
The Cathedral will be closed following the 8.30am Eucharist for a private event until 3.30pm.
