Join us for the return of our Dean's Discussions, where The Very Revd Karen Rooms, Dean of Leicester, will be joined by a panel to discuss the untold stories and connected histories that can challenge us to see the world differently.

The panel will include:

Eleanor Nesbitt is an emeritus professor in the University of Warwick. Her research has focused on the lives of Sikh, Hindu and Christian families and her books include Sikhism: A Very Short Introduction (2nd edition 2016, Oxford University Press).

Surinder Kaur Sandhu has had a sterling career as a radio newscaster and read the news in Punjabi for the Leicester BBC Asian Network. Surinder is an experienced faith practitioner for St Philip's Centre and regularly contributes to their multi-regional schools programmes, church-based talks and public sector training and development initiatives. Surinder is involved in wider activities in the Sikh community and in 2024, Surinder was involved in an incredible exhibition on powerful women of our history project with the Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre which is will be on display at Leicester Cathedral.

Manjit Atwal QPM is a retired Chief Supt who started her Policing service in April 1996. Manjit was commended for her distinguished Policing career and awarded the Queens Policing medal, she was one of the highest-ranking Sikh women locally and nationally. Other commitments within Leicestershire - she was the Chair of Women inclusive Network, Chair of the Sikh Association and an executive member of the National Women of Colour working group. Manjit continues to coach and mentor across Policing and particularly supports those from minoritised communities.

This discussion will take place alongside the Medieval Women Forging the Way: Influential Women of the Sikh World and Beyond exhibition held in Leicester Cathedral from Wednesday 12 to Monday 31 March 2025.
