The Bishop of Loughborough to be installed
Posted: Mon, 22 Jan 2024
The Rt Revd Saju Muthulaly will be installed as Bishop of Loughborough at a special Choral Evensong service in Leicester Cathedral on Sunday 28 January 2024 at 3.30pm. He became the Bishop of Loughborough in 2022, moving to Leicestershire from Gillingham where he was vicar of St Mark's church. His installation was delayed due to the closure of the Cathedral for its Leicester Cathedral Revealed renovations.
An Installation is a Christian liturgical act that formally inducts an incumbent into a new role at a particular place such as a Cathedral. The term arises from the act of symbolically leading the incumbent to their stall or throne within the Cathedral.
Bishop Saju says, "Being installed as Bishop two years after being appointed in some ways makes it a more special occasion for me personally. In that time, I have come to know and cherish the Diocese - the people, places and parishes within it - and this service gives me a chance to reflect on all that I have learned, all of the ways I have seen God at work, and everything I am grateful for over that time, and to recommit again to my calling to serve the people of Leicester and Leicestershire as their suffragan Bishop".
The service will also see the installation of three Honorary Canons – Nathan Morley, David Palmer, and Revd Gill Pennington, and the Commissioning of the Diocesan Womens' Ministry Group.
All are welcome to attend the service. Light refreshments will be served afterwards.
