Concert for Remembrance
Posted: Mon, 4 Nov 2024
Our concert of Music for Remembrance at 7.30pm on Armistice Day, Monday, 11 November, will open with Maurice Duruflé's Prélude et Fugue sur le nom d'Alain. The piece was composed in memory of the composer and organist Jehan Alain, who was killed in action in 1940 at the age of just 29.
Tickets for the concert, which also includes Mark Blatchly's moving setting of Laurence Binyon's famous poem For the Fallen, former Master of the Music George Gray's setting of Provost of Leicester Frederick MacNutt's poem The Salient and a complete performance of Duruflé's Requiem are available from Eventbrite now.
Cathedral Director of Music, Chris Ouvry-Johns, will also play the Prelude before, and the Fugue after, Choral Evensong on Remembrance Sunday, 10 November. Please be seated by 3.20pm in order to hear the whole piece.
