Summer What's On 2024

This summer we will have exciting opportunities to explore and enjoy stories of Leicester, of faith, and of culture as we celebrate the new life our cathedral building is bringing.

Treat yourself to the beauty of choral evensong and recitals by talented young musicians. Bring a friend or relative to sing in the restored space of the Cathedral in Dementia Week. Laugh between the pillars at local Paul Gosling's Dr Watson comedy production. Reflect with us on Iain McKillop's extraordinary painting series Stations of the Resurrection. Explore the city's excavations with world renowned archaeologist Mathew Morris, and food growing in the heart of the city with Saffron Acres gardeners.

It will be great to see you.

Discipleship

Sundays 12 May, 9 June, 7 July, 11 August | 12.15–1.00pm
Questions Together
In the Gospels, Jesus asks 307 questions. He is asked around 183 questions, but only answers three. In fact, Jesus often responded to a question with another question! Asking questions can empower us to learn and grow in our faith, but it can feel challenging, and finding answers can also be difficult.

Our monthly discussion group aims to offer a friendly space to ask questions (and practise giving answers!) about faith and discipleship. Everyone is welcome and there is no need to book a place. Join us as we ask, wonder, and share together!

In St George's Chapel after the Sunday Eucharist, no booking is required.

Thursdays 9 May, 6 June, 11 July, 8 August | 7.00–8.00pm, Zoom
Cathedral Book Club
Meeting online once a month over Zoom.

In May, we will be reading Stations of the Resurrection: Encounters with the Risen Christ – reflections by Guli Francis-Dehqani and Malcolm Guite on artwork by Iain McKillop, to coincide with the exhibition featuring in the Cathedral during April and May.

In June, we've decided to read An Intercultural Church for a Multicultural World by Bishop Martyn Snow.

Join us to help choose what we will read in future sessions. New members are always welcome – please email Jude.Taylor@LeicesterCofE.org.

Saturday 15 June | 9.30am
Summer Pilgrimage Walk
Join us on a prayerful walk through the city and its surroundings. Over the course of 2.5–3 hours, we will journey together, guided through a series of reflections. All are welcome, but children must be accompanied by an adult. Register via Eventbrite – available soon!

Saturday 13 July | 9.30am
Following Christ: 'ACross Culture'
What is intercultural discipleship, and what does it mean to disciple people across different cultures?

What can we learn from understanding discipleship from the perspectives of people from around the world, and how can this positively challenge what discipleship and growing in faith with others looks like in our churches?

Join us for an interactive day of workshops, guest speakers, reflection, networking, and worship as we practically explore how we can more inclusively journey in faith together. Taking place in both Leicester Cathedral and St Martins House.

This event is delivered in partnership between Leicester Cathedral and Leicester Diocese's Intercultural Worshipping Communities.

Exploring Faith?
Are you interested in journeying with others who would also like to know more about faith, discipleship
and church? All are very welcome – especially if you are new to church – to contact Jude (Jude.Taylor@LeicesterCofE.org) to register your interest.

Leicester Uncovered: The Most Excavated City in Britain
Leicester is an ancient city which has been continuously occupied for over 2,000 years. It was here before the Romans, an Iron Age tribal centre which grew into the Roman town Ratae Corieltavorum, which became the Mercian bishopric of Legorensis, which became the borough of Leicester.

Royal site, market town, industrial metropolis, modern multicultural city; every facet of Leicester's rich history survives to some degree beneath the city's streets waiting to be rediscovered.

Join archaeologist Mathew Morris from University of Leicester Archaeological Services for a talk about the city's archaeology and why, today, Leicester is one of the most excavated cities in Britain.
Tickets: £5.50 Full / £3.50 Concession. Available from Eventbrite.

Thursday 13 June | 6.30–8.30pm
