University Choral Scholarships
Three Choral Scholarships, currently worth £1000 per annum, are available to undergraduate and post-graduate students at local universities. Choral Scholars follow the same pattern of rehearsals and services as the Young Songmen / Senior Girls and also have the opportunity to sing with the Cathedral Chamber Choir. Auditions for vacant scholarships are usually held at the start of the academic year, but the Director of Music is pleased to meet prospective candidates informally at any time (for example when visiting Leicester for a university open day, or for interview). Any scholarships remaining vacant may be awarded later in the year.
For details contact the Director of Music, Christopher Ouvry-Johns, through the Cathedral Office.
The Dr. George Gray Memorial Trust
Registered Charity No. 513625
Dr George Gray, Master of the Music from 1930 – 1969, died in 1981 aged 83. His many friends in diverse fields, including the Cathedral, Diocese, the University, various choirs and musical associations, Rotary and at Grace Road (cricket), wished to join with former pupils and choristers to establish a memorial to him.
In 1982 The Dr George Gray Memorial Trust was founded by the Old Choristers’ Association to help to maintain the high choral standard and tradition of the Cathedral Choir. The trust currently provides scholarships, each worth £370 per annum, to nine choristers. The aim is to provide such scholarships for each of the choristers.
The Trustees of the fund appeal for your support to enable them to increase the number of scholarships they are able to provide. Large donations or bequests can have a scholarship named after the benefactor.
The names associated with the nine Scholarships are:
- Dr George Gray 1
- Dr George Gray 2
