Friends of Leicester Cathedral

Who are the Friends?


Friends of Leicester Cathedral are individuals united by their love for the cathedral, coming from the Diocese and beyond. They're dedicated to nurturing and enriching the cathedral's essence. By fostering friendship and camaraderie, they stand beside the Dean and Chapter, collectively safeguarding and elevating its physical and spiritual significance. Their purpose extends to endorsing missions that resonate with current and upcoming generations.

Aims and Objectives

The Charity is established to assist and support the Dean and Chapter in furthering the religious and charitable work of the Cathedral in particular, but not exclusively, by:

    • Helping by prayer, gifts and services in the general work of the Cathedral and by contributing to the Cathedral's maintenance, adornment, improvement and preservation.
    • Forging and strengthening links between the Cathedral, the Diocese and the Community both in the City of Leicester and the County of Leicestershire.
    • Providing a means of bringing together in friendship and society those who wish to play a part in supporting the Cathedral's life and worship

Joining the Friends

Each year The Friends contribute to the Cathedral's ongoing work in conservation, enhancement, restoration, and music.

    • share in the life of the Cathedral by your interest and gifts and prayer
    • receive invitations to Friends' events and receptions
    • be an extended part of the Cathedral family and meet people of similar interests
    • receive the Cathedral's Annual Review
    • share in caring for our heritage
