Leicester Cathedral is committed to making the building welcoming to all. Our Leicester Cathedral Revealed project has improved the accessibility of this historic building. Below you can find access information for you to plan your visit.
Main Entrance
The main entrance to Leicester Cathedral is through the south door (Vaughan Porch) in Cathedral Gardens, and is wheelchair-accessible. The floor is level throughout the building.
Lighting in the Cathedral may be dim for certain events and during the evening.
Toilets and Baby Changing
There are public toilets in the Heritage & Learning Centre.
The facilities include baby changing and an accessible toilet.
Blue Badge Parking
Blue Badge holders can park in Applegate Car Park which is approximately 150 meters from the Cathedral (spaces here are very limited).
BSL Information Links
We have worked with partners to create BSL videos accompanying our Welcome guide. These can be found by scanning the QR codes on our Welcome guide, or in a playlist on our YouTube channel (click here).
Audio Guides
We have worked with Imagineear to launch our first ever audio guide.
The audio guides are delivered on 50 Mirage™ devices, with a specialist audio descriptive tour for blind and partially sighted visitors on 5 Piccolo™ devices.
The tour highlights include the Tomb of King Richard III, the Redemption Windows and other stained glass inspired by the Arts and Craft movement as well as the story of the Cathedral and its architectural features.
Our audio guides can be hired at £3.50 per guide. Please ask at the Welcome Desk for more information.
Website Accessibility Tools
If you would like to read any of our website pages in an alternative language or to change the text size, please launch the assistive toolbar by clicking the 'Accessibility Tools' Button, which features a stick person icon, in the bottom-right corner of your screen.
Hearing Loop
A hearing loop is available at the Welcome Desk.
Assistance Dogs
Leicester Cathedral is a dog-friendly place (if well-behaved!), and assistance dogs are permitted throughout the building.
Essential Companion Scheme for Events
Audience members who require assistance can obtain one free essential companion ticket when they purchase a full price ticket to our performances.
To obtain an essential companion ticket we ask that you register with our Essential Companion scheme. This is designed to assist customers with additional needs and ensure that we can make your visit as comfortable as possible. We store information on your personal requirements so that you don't need to resubmit documentation each time you book.
Once registered, you will be eligible for a free companion ticket with the standard ticket you purchase for each event.
To apply, please complete the Essential Companion Registration Form via our online form (click here).
